FAIRSEA
FAIRSEA, Adriatic Sea, ecosystem approach, Biodiversity, sustainable fisheries management
The FAIRSEA project aims to strengthen transnational capacity and cooperation to support an ecosystem approach to fisheries in the Adriatic region through the exchange of knowledge and the sharing of good practices between partners.
WinFIsh
Aquaculture, WIN-FISH, Fish welfare, Mediterranean Sea
The WIN-FISH project improves fish welfare in European aquaculture, focusing on sea bass, sea bream, rainbow trout, and Atlantic salmon. It examines how stress-coping styles affect health, behavior, and productivity. Using recirculating aquaculture systems, environmental enrichment, and selective breeding, WIN-FISH develops sustainable, welfare-friendly farming practices to reduce stress, enhance fish health, and support responsible aquaculture management across Europe.
OrAqua
OrAqua, Organic aquaculture
The OrAqua project (FP7) aimed to support the sustainable development of organic aquaculture in Europe by reviewing and improving the EU regulatory framework, particularly Regulation (EC) No. 710/2009. Coordinated by NOFIMA AS, the project involved research institutions and stakeholders across Europe. Key objectives included assessing current technical rules, developing evidence-based recommendations, and producing technical dossiers following EGTOP guidelines. Using a participatory, multi-actor approach, OrAqua addressed species-specific production, animal welfare, environmental impacts, and market aspects. Its results provide actionable guidance for regulators and producers, promoting innovation, sustainability, and growth in European organic aquaculture.
Filiera
